Located in the heart of the Douro Valley, Quinta do Crasto takes place in an alive, evolutionary, and wine cultured landscape. Within this spirit, the refurbishment project of its facilities answers to the current reality of the wine industry, between production and tourism, embodying its technological, strategic, and environmental challenges. Set between production and tourism, the scope of the project is to empower Quinta do Crasto’s artisanal way, while implementing a cutting-edge technological update of facilities, and promoting new uses for the existing cellars. The intervention resets the existing layout, so as to avoid its seasonal usage. It promotes the coexistence of different activities between production, visiting, and tasting, by coordinating the paths of visitors, of the wine, and of the staff. This system uses a strategic set of unlevelled gangways which autonomize these paths, between the refurbished buildings. Technology and Nostalgy is the motto. As in winemaking, we reduced and concentrated, nourishing a sense a depth, through the loss of flavourless matter which dilutes, striving to accentuate character.
